MLMM Photo Challenge #356 – Burdened

The Challenge: Use the image (my cover) as inspiration for a poem or short story. Alternatively, if you are an artist or photographer, use this as an opportunity to showcase your own work.

Please visit Nekneeraj for the original challenge,

My Submission:

The weight of the world does not reside on my shoulders. It’s in my head. Every broken relationship, bad judgement call, mistake, off the cuff remark that hurt someone’s feelings; it stays with me, growing heavier and more intrusive as days pass.

Sometimes, I haven’t the strength to get out of bed. My head is too heavy.

I’ll drag my head to breakfast, to work, grocery shopping. I’ll accidentally cut someone off on the highway, and my head grows heavier. I’ll speak shortly to a customer service rep, and my burdened head swells.

I wish I knew how to deflate, let go my imperfections and forgive myself. Instead, I dwell and dwell and dwell, until I feel my head is about to explode.
