Lynn’s Tuesday Picture Prompt #37 – Never Good Enough

THE CREATIVE GOAL: What does the picture evoke? What emotion, feeling, memory…what does it arouse in YOU?

The cover photo is the prompt, and the original challenge is offered by,

My Submission:

There she was, in the window, staring at me as I tidied the garden.

She did not look pleased. She never did.

Twice a week, I’d tend to her landscape…trim the bushes, cut the grass, pull the weeds.

And every time, she’d just stand there, staring at me through the window, looking thoroughly disappointed.

Finally, I gathered the courage to enter the house and confront her,

“I’m doing my best!” I shouted up the stairs.

As I waited for a response, the room grew so cold I could see my breaths.

Nana’s pride and joy was her garden, and even in death, she did not consider my thumb green enough for her standards.
