“Meet me under the Eiffel Tower at exactly midnight.”

She could barely contain her excitement. Finally, she was going to meet her boyfriend in person, the man she’d had a nine-month relationship with online. At his urging, she’d travelled half-way across the globe to meet him in person and truly begin their courtship.

She stood beneath the glowing lights of Paris’ main attraction, jittering with excitement and anticipation. She wore her finest dress, red-soled stilettos, and her most expensive diamond teardrop earrings. 

Suddenly, a man approached on a scooter, “Ella!”

She did not recognize him, but he recognized her. 

“D…Daniel?” she said. “You don’t look anything like your pic-”

He jumped off his scooter. “Give me a hug, Princess.”

That was the name he’d always called her. So, despite her reluctance, she accepted his intimate advance. But, the moment she wrapped her arms around his unexpectedly narrow shoulders, he nabbed her earrings, broke the chain around her neck, and snatched her purse. 

With an air-smooch, he jumped on his scooter and sped away.
