He opened his email and found a notification, warning him to stop illegally downloading movies off the internet, otherwise the authorities would be notified and he could be fined up to $50,000.

Empty threats, he thought as he found a few new films to add to his already vast collection.

The next day, a knock came to his door. Two large men in suits and dark sunglasses handed him a piece of paper.

First line: “You are in violation of act 194, prohibiting any one person from illegally downloading content off the internet for personal or public use. A fine of $50,000 has been issued and you will be taken into custody for no less than 90 days.”

Jonathan started to cry.

“Do you understand the charges?” asked one of the men.

“Yes, but I’m only fifteen-years-old-”

“So, you understand that you have committed a felony.”

He nodded, tears streaming down his face. “Can I call my Mom?” he asked. “She’s still at work.”

“No phone calls until you have been admitted.”

Jonathan was beside himself. Then, he heard a faint chuckle. His best friend popped out from the bushes. “Gotcha! That’s what you get for tricking me into eating that mud pie.” 

The men removed their sunglasses, and Jonathan immediately recognized them as his friend’s father and older brother.
