Story inspired by the First Line Friday challenge, “Dominic bowed his head to hide his face.” Original link below 🙂
Dominic bowed his head to hide his face. It was the first time he had ever considered stealing.
At thirteen, he thought he was wise to the ways of the world, but his parents knew better.
“I’m going out,” he said.
“Where?” his father asked.
Dominic was itching for an ice cream sandwich, despite losing his allowance when he whacked his little brother on the head with a toy train. “Just out,” he curtly responded.
“Alright, dear,” said his mother, shooting a sly eye to her husband. He responded with a nod, and followed their eldest son.
Entering the convenience store, Dominic attempted to look aloof…browsed the magazines, grabbed a can of soda, then put it back.
When he reached the freezer, he glanced around, taking care not to show too much of his face.
He grabbed an ice cream sandwich and stealthily slipped it inside his hoodie.
A second later, Dominic felt a firm hand on his shoulder.
“You’ve now lost your allowance for the next six months,” said his father.
