He approached the cavern, again
Unsure why
The artifact was already in his possession
But, something drew him back
A whispure on the wind
A yank to his gut
Standing at the mouth, he asked,
“Why did you call me back?”
The cavern answered with a pull of his staff’s flame
His feet followed
Soft steps
Slow, cautious
The moment he entered
The flame was extinguished
He could no longer see, but heard a small whimper
The cry of something…a child, an animal?
Into the cavern, he tread
Sightlessly searching for what wept
Then, he stumbled
Tripping over something small
It cried louder
A whoosh!
Something flew overhead
Something large, snarling
A magnanimous screech followed
The man instinctively fell over the small being
Shielding it with his body
A few minutes later, the little one exited the cavern
The man did not
